Headcanon time!

A short time after the Holy Roman Empire was formally dissolved in 1806, a boy resembling the late HRE was found wandering the outskirts of Düsseldorf. When questioned he was unable to remember where he came from, how old he was, or even his own name. 

To put suspicions regarding the mysterious boy’s identity to the test, he was brought to a church where he was raised by the clergy for the following five years. While he did not age a day during that time, he adopted the lifestyle and became a notable addition to the service.

By this point, however, the boy’s fate had already been predetermined. While sad to leave the place he’d learned to call home, he was taken to his “brother” in Könisberg, given the name Ludwig Beilschmidt, and presented with the title Germany.
